Speech Therapist

SERRC, Alaska's Educational Resource Center seeks a Speech Therapist. Join a unique team of professionals working with students with disabilities in rural Alaska. Position Description: 

This is a full time itinerant position. Travel to rural/remote school sites, frequently by small plane, is required. While evaluations for special education eligibility is the primary responsibility for this position, the speech therapist is often viewed as a resource for other education-related information. An understanding and acceptance of cultural diversity is essential to success in this position.

Position Qualifications: 
Position Duties: 
  • Assess student's needs, performance and abilities with accuracy.
  • Prepare comprehensive report including: recommendation for eligibility according to Alaska Special Education Handbook ; summary of evaluation results; recommended activities to teachers and parents; and suggested IEP goals and objectives, where appropriate.
  • Prescribe programs that allow students to reach their goals in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Make recommendations to school districts and parents.
  • Communicate with districts to plan visits, travel arrangements and housing accommodations.
  • Travel to perform responsibilities of job.

  • Model positive team leadership at all times.
  • Assist in the promotion of and recruitment for all SERRC programs.
