Education Specifications and Facility Planning
Educational Specifications are the road map followed by the architect in designing a school. They spell out the size, type and numbers of spaces required to implement the educational program in the building. The Department of Education and Early Development requires educational specifications for all new school construction and school renovation projects where space is altered.
SERRC Facilities Services has helped lay the groundwork for countless projects throughout the state by providing guidance to the districts and working with the design professionals during the planning stages. SERRC's Facilities staff first work with the school district and the facility stakeholders to develop an educational specification that meets the needs of their program, and then work with the design team to ensure that this specification is met in the concept and final designs. This process helps ensure that the end of the project, the building, meets the district’s expectations and budget.
