Wanted: Students interested in the construction industry! 

Proposed: Southeast Alaska Construction Trades Academy
Location:  Plumbers/Pipefitters Hall, Juneau
Date:  April 18-30, 2010

Applications due no later than:  Monday, March 8, 2010

We will be applying again for grant funds to hold a 2010 Construction Trades Academy.  If our grant is approved,  you are invited to apply for the two-week Southeast Alaska Construction Trades Academy if you are a graduating high school student, or recent high school or GED graduate, 18-24 years old from rural Southeast Alaska.  Travel and tuition will be  paid by the grant.

Activities include:

  • Hands-on training in basic carpentry skills
  • Construction math classes
  • OSHA 10 training and certification
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Power Actuated Tools (HILTI) certification
  • Enrollment in AKCIS, ALEXsys, and WIN/WorkKeys career information tools
  • Information about apprenticeship careers
  • Discussions with community and industry leaders regarding construction careers
  • Job-seeking tools and skills
