Alaska Close Up

Meet and network with other Alaskan students and teachers as you learn about the three branches of state government and how they work together to govern our state. Work with your legislators and others in state government as you solve a local problem. Visit various government sites and hold standing committee simulations and a mock legislative session. We’ve been bringing students and teachers to Juneau for over 20 years, and Alaska Close Up has served over 3,000 students. Our activities are aligned with Alaska Content Standards.

You are eligible to attend Alaska Close Up if you are a 9th – 12th grader, have a basic understanding of state government, and are able to work with other students and adults. Your district should send one teacher/chaperone for every five students.

Your district will begin the enrollment process with an intent form. Teachers who are attending should use the "Just for Teachers" link to prepare themselves and their students for the session. Make sure parents read the "Just for Parents" page. Use the “Just for Students” link to learn additional details and access the advance assignments. Alaska Close Up students complete assignments 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 11, and 12.
